Spread the Love Valentines Art Market and Community Day

Hi Minnesota. It’s been a whirlwind of a few weeks, witnessing tragedy and heartbreak across Minneapolis and beyond. ICE and DHS have harmed so many in such a short timeframe and I see many of us yearning for action and community. Minnesota has become mobilized in a breathtaking, sweeping way and its momentum we need to keep up for the safety and security of our neighbors. All of them.

Last year, I hosted a valentine’s event in my studio and had plans to do the same thing in 2026. But this year, it feels important to host community focused events, especially now.

This year, on Sunday, February 15th I will be hosting Spread the Love in collaboration with Bumbling Fools Meadery. This is an art and community event across two spaces.

In my space, there will be several artists, each with their work, some pieces dedicated for exchange for donations to local organizations that support rent assistance, food and grocery support, immigration legal assistance, and general Minnesota mutual aid. We will also be serving free soup and will have veggie, vegan, and gluten free options. We will also have med kits, whistles, and Barrio Drive’s info on ICE interactions available to take.

Across the parking lot, Bumbling Fools Meadery will be hosting their Day of Community from 12-6 where they are opening their doors for gathering, as well as donations of food and household goods (check their updated lists!) as well as money. We are donating supplies and materials to host valentines making and writing letters to state representatives in their space. And of course, they will have delicious mead and delightful people.

Join us February 15th from 11a-4p at 1081 21st Ave SE. Minneapolis, MN for a day of community ❤️

Julmarknad

Julmarknad

  • The Swedish Institute (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

ASI’s Julmarknad celebrates the spirit of Swedish slöjd, or handcraft, by promoting artists who make their own goods by hand. ASI also upholds traditional handcraft all year round with our Nordic Handcraft programs. Workshops, demos and lectures led by skilled instructors bring Nordic-inspired folk arts to life through innovative and creative programs in textiles, wood, birch bark weaving, basketry, glass and more. Learn more about ASI’s Nordic Handcraft Programs.

The sights and sounds of the holiday market, or Julmarknad market, come to ASI for 3 days during the first weekend in December at one of the region’s largest handcraft markets and holiday festivals. Shop over 60 local artists for beautiful, fun, and useful handmade goods.

Perfect for all ages, Julmarknad offers pop-up musical performances, family crafts, story time, festive foods, holiday shopping at ASI’s Museum Store and Jul Shop, and a visit to ASI’s iconic holiday exhibition in the Turnblad Mansion.

A European tradition that can be traced back to the Middle Ages, julmarknader are a hallmark of the Swedish holiday season. In Sweden today, these markets run outdoors throughout November and December and are filled with festive handmade goods from local vendors. More than just a shopping experience, a julmarknad is an important community gathering space. ASI’s Julmarknad brings the same joyful spirit every December to Minneapolis, featuring local artists from many backgrounds—although the ASI market is all indoors!

The St. Louis Park Art Fair is made possible by a partnership between Friends of the Arts and the City of St. Louis Park, as well as by the event founder and coordinator, St. Louis Park resident Alysha Boie. As a local maker, she envisioned organizing a local event to celebrate local artists and build community pride. She applied for and received a St. Louis Park Arts and Culture Grant to put on the inaugural SLP Art Fair at the ROC with fiscal sponsorship from Friends of the Arts. Thanks to Alysha’s vision, leadership and management, St. Louis Park has a growing art fair, bringing the community together and celebrating local artists and makers! This year, we welcome Erin VonRuden as our new Art Fair Coordinator. Erin is an SLP resident who has been involved in the Art Fair since its inception.

People's Pride

The Minneapolis People’s Pride intends to be a space for all queer folks to experience joy, eat food, trade art, and various other activities. Making space for and feeding queer joy is a radical act of resistance that both uplifts the queer community and resists white supremacist heteropatriarchy. We aim to create a space for rest, collaboration, and love, centering those most marginalized and affected by systemic xenophobia.
